Oct 29 2009 - Dixie Speedway Results 10-24 Fall Championship

(Woodstock, GA) Tony Knowles took the lead at the green flag and never looked back Saturday night to take the victory in the season ending Fall Championship race.

As Knowles led the field, drivers Ricky Williams and Lee Sutton staged a race long battle for second with each driver taking the position several times before Williams took the spot in the final laps leaving Sutton to settle for third. Meanwhile, the rest of the field raced hard to get to the front with several drivers attempting to go three and four wide at times to gain positions. Luther Jenkins while running in fourth on lap three had an oil line break in turn three causing the entire field behind him to spin and pileup. Luckily no cars were damaged enough to leave the race other than Jenkins. As the raced progressed, Travis Pennington and J.J. Nye raced their way in to the fourth and fifth places in the final laps finishing in that order.

Mike McConnell took advantage of his heat race win to get the pole position in the Limited Late Model race and go on to his third victory of the season. McConnell held off Division Champion Oliver Gentry forcing him to settle for second as Jason Smith, driving the car normally driven by John Williams, followed in third. Glenn Morris had one of his best showings on the season as he held off Scottie Pritchett for a fourth place finish.

The Crate Late Model class would see Chuck Padgett take a commanding lead at first only to see Pete Cochran pass him by on lap seventeen. Padgett then tried to hold on to second but was again overtaken by Doug Stevens. Padgett would hold on to third followed closely behind by Chip Brindle and Tyler Millwood to complete the top five.

Daniel Vineyard would hold off a fast closing Roy Patterson to take his first ever checkered flag in the Super Bomber class. Patterson had to settle for second with Tony McDowell, Joey Kendall, and Lee McElwaney rounding out the top five.

Johnny Morrison raced his way from a fourteenth starting spot to take the lead of the Economy Bomber race. After several cautions, David Beam would make his way to second followed by Wesley Brown in third. Joe Dockery and Howard Price would scrape through the cautions and race their way in to a fourth and fifth finish.

The Pony class would once again see Ross Baines in victory lane after the apparent winner was DQ’d following post race inspection. This moved Cody Sisson up to second followed by Derek Jennings, Grady Stokes, and Matt McCollum to complete the top five.

In one of the best races of the season in the Cruiser class, the team of Eric & Chris Neese staged a race long battle with the team of Joe Trantham & Shane Stancil to take the win.
